Czech population grows
For the first time since the foundation of the Czech Republic in 1993 there were more people born than people who died last year. 105,800 children were born and 104,400 people died. At the end of 2006 there were 10,287,189 people living in the Czech Republic.
12,530 children were born in Prague last year, which is about 600 babies more than year before. 12,274 Prague people died in 2006. 6841 couples got married in Prague, 3737 marriages were divorced. There are now 1,188,126 inhabitants in Prague.
The increased number of children is caused by the population explosion in the late 70’s. Women, who are now about 30 years old and who have studied or built their carrier, now decide to have a baby.
