Torah scrolls in Prague again

One of the biggest Jewish treasure comes back to Prague after 40 years. More then 1500 Torah scrolls, formerly owned by Czech Jews sent to concentration camps, are borrowed from London. Communists sold them there during the 60’s for a token fee.

These Torah scrolls travelled thanks to the Jewish Congregation in London and later Memorial Scroll Trust Organization to the whole world. They were used for liturgical ceremonies there.

A small part of the set of scrolls can be seen from today in Robert Guttmann Gallery (U Stare Skoly 3 street). This representation introduces the tradition of Torah scrolls, what they are used for and how to decorate them. The exhibition called The Second Life of Czech Torah Scrolls is held to commemorate 100 years of Jewish Museum in Prague and finishes on 28th January 2007. Entrance fee is 30 CZK, reduced 15 CZK.
