Communist names of stations in Prague metro today

Prague metro Travellers in Prague metro may be surprise today to hear different names of metro stations from the loudspeakers. The names of the stations are not chosen haphazardly, they come from the communist times when station were called Moskevska (from Russian city Moscow) – now Andel, Leninova – now Dejvicka, Gottwaldova – now Vysehrad etc.

The old announcements are broadcast due to the project of Czech Television that prepares a documentary film about Ivan Medek who was persecuted by the communist regime. Czech people knew him thanks to the radio station Hlas Ameriky (The Voice of America) that was secretly listened to by many Czech families.

The reaction of people to these announcements are monitored by cameras. The reactions vary from person to person but nobody has complained to the Prague Public Transport Company yet.
