Pilsen Bans neo-nazi March

The mayor of Pilsen forbids the Saturday neo-nazi march, after the invitation started to spread among the extremists on international website. Thanks to his decision, the police will be able to do do what they can to prevent the march from starting.

Pilsen Mayor Pavel Rodr: “From the information we got from various webs, we presume the same number of neo-nazi which headed to Prague, heads to Pilsen now.”

We cannot forget Prague is ten times larger than Pilsen, and such number of radicals could do real harm. There will be a great number of police officers in Pilsen on Saturday.

Their 10 month long protest continues – first they turned to anti-monopoly office, when it didn’t help, they started to sue the National Library. They claim the competition was contested. Their design (picture) ended third.

Their activities complicated yesterday meeting of the National Library Team. The director of National Library said the debates were proper, the Prague Mayor Pavel Bem even that the athmosphere was good. Nonetheless, the team didn’t come to the conclusion. The next meeting is prepared on 27th February.

Schengen Kontrolle – Border checks Austria x Czech Republic

Not very much changed at the borders of the Czech Republic and Austria from the Austrian side. The Czech Republic entered Schengen space 21th December 2007, which means obvious free movement of goods and folks. But even when the border police disappeared from borders, on the Austrian site they just spread, and they check ‘suspicious vehicles’.

The former border police comments the situation; they want to control the number of refugees. Cars, that could be carrying them, are reported by police officers in civilian cars, up the road. The Schengen Kontrolle has wide support of Austria public.

Growing Interest for Prague Sights

old town hall Into the historic sights, which are governed by the Prague Information Service (PIS), were visited by 18 % more visitors than in the year 2006. That makes the total of sightseers 1,3 million people.

The speaker of PIS Dagmar Holubova informed: “There were definitely more visitors of sights, more tourists came to our information centers, but we also got more hits of our web pages (www.pis.cz) – 3,85 million.

The largest interest from Prague Sights arouses traditionally Old Town City Hall at Old Town Square, which attracted 432 500 visitors last year.
